7 Card Stud

Overview

Seven-card stud is the most popular version of stud poker. Two to eight people can play this game. Each player is dealt a total of seven cards, and a player who made the best five-card combination using these seven cards becomes a winner.

Unlike in Texas Hold'em or Omaha, Seven-card stud is played only with bet limits. In Seven-card stud, there are no Pot Limit and No Limit games.

General features of stud poker

  • All dealt cards are individual, that means there are no common cards.
  • Some cards are dealt face up, some cards (minimum one) are dealt face down and only a player can see it.
  • Every player must bet Ante before the hand begins (there are no Blinds in stud).

We offer you two variants of this game - Seven-card stud (also called Seven-card stud High) and Seven-card stud High-Low.

Basic Rules

The game is played using a standard 52 card deck. Two to eight people can play this game.

At the beginning, each player receives three cards: two face down and one face up. During the game the players are dealt another 3 cards face up and one face down. Each player uses five of his seven cards to make up his final hand. The best of these card combinations wins the pot.

The combinations and its ranks as in Texas Hold'em.

Seven Card Stud High-Low Rules

This version of seven-card stud has no difference from regular seven-card stud except the following: the pot is split equally between the best high hand and the best low hand. A winner is the player with the highest card combination. High hand splits the pot with the best low hand which consists of 5 cards from 8 and lower.

Players may use any five of his seven cards to make their best hands.

The pot is split evenly between high hand and low hand. If there is more than one low hand, a winner is determined by 'high' card which is the lowest card in this case. If two or more players have equally ranked low hands, the low pot half will be evenly split between them.

A player may use any five of his seven cards to make both high hand and low hand. The best low hand is 5, 4, 3, 2 and Ace of any suits. The same Ace may be used for high and low hands.

Game Types

Limit poker

In limit seven-card stud, in the first and second rounds all bets and raises must be equal to the minimum allowed bet. In third, forth and fifth rounds all bets must be equal to the maximum allowed bet. For example, in a Chips 1/2 Limit game, all bets in the first two rounds will be equal to Chips 1, in following rounds Chips 2. Maximum of 3 raises are allowed per betting round.

Game Stages

The game consists of five betting rounds, then showdown. Before the hand begins, every player must place an ante into the pot.

Antes

Seven-card stud is played with the "ante". All players must post ante, before cards are dealt. The ante amount is approximately equal to 1/5 of the minimum bet.

Starting hand

After the ante is posted, each player is dealt 3 cards - two face-down and one face up. Face up card is also called 'Third Street'.

Third Street

The player with the lowest open card must make a Bring-in bet which is usually equal to a half of the minimum bet or full minimum bet. If two or more players have the same low card, the player to bring-in will be determined by suit order: clubs, hearts, diamonds, and spades.

Bring-in is considered as the first betting round, and if nobody raises, the player who has made Bring-in may not bet anymore until the next round.

Fourth Street

Each active player is dealt another face up card - so called Forth Street. The player with the highest hand starts betting round. He may choose to fold, check, or bet. If two or more players are tied for the highest hand, the player who is the first to act is determined by suit order. If any of the players show a pair, double bet is allowed. The player may bet either the minimum or maximum bet. Otherwise, all bets must be equal to the minimum allowed bet.

The player with the highest hand starts the next betting round.

Fifth Street

The fifth card is dealt face up to each active player. This is Fifth Street.

Play proceeds as in the previous round, with the highest hand betting first, except now all bets must be equal to the high bet size.

River

The seventh and final card is dealt face-down to all active players. It is also called River Card or Seventh Street. The last betting round starts.

Showdown

When all bets get equal, it is time to show the cards. The last player to bet or raise during the final betting round shows his cards first. If during the last betting round all the remaining players are checking (nobody betting), the first player to the left from dealer who did not discard is to show his cards first. The other players reveal their cards moving clockwise around the table. If player's current hand is weaker than winning hand shown, he has the option to show or muck his cards.

In Seven-card Stud the best five-card hand takes the pot. In Seven-card Stud High/Low, a pot is split between best high hand and best low hand evenly. If no player has low hand, the entire pot goes to the player with High hand If two players share an identical hand, the pot is split. Each player may claim the pot in forming of which he took part. The policy of later joining the game

As far as there is no Blind in the game and the Pot is created from the equal fees of the players, a player who wants to join the game just may sit on the empty place at the table. He starts playing the next round after he made an ante.

Table Stakes

In Limit Game both Bet and Raise are preset.

Minimum and maximum buy-ins

Limit poker

Example: In a Chips 5/10 limit game, in the fist two betting rounds Bet and Raise must be equal to Chips 5. Not less, not more. In the last rounds Bet and Raise and raise must be equal to Chips 10.

Disconnection Policy

Disconnect protection is a tool that protects our players if their Internet connection is lost while they are involved in game.

  1. If player become disconnected from our server in the middle of a Poker hand, we protect its bet considering him goes All-In for the amount of money he currently have in the pot. This protects player's money in the hand as well as allows other players to continue betting.
  2. Disconnect protection is not to used for any other purpose besides a genuine disconnection. Misuse of this policy may result in loss of the disconnect protection privilege, won chips, tournament disqualification, or expulsion from the site.
  3. Our software is designed to detect if a player has a genuine disconnection before implementing the disconnect protection to him. Players who try to take an advantage of disconnect protection by deliberately getting 'timed out' will be considered to have folded.
  4. All players must accept the risk of disconnection. Disconnections can and do occur. Just log back on and continue play as quickly as possible. Betrebels Poker is not responsible for any disconnection occurred with player.
  5. If player is disconnected during a hand and has disconnect protection available, he will be able to play for the part of the pot he has brought chips in. The player can win whatever was in the pot at the time of the disconnection.
  6. BetRebels Poker reserves the right to change policy and make final decisions on all matters herein at its own discretion. BetRebels Poker will inform about policy changes and relevant decisions on its site.

Real money game disconnect protection

Disconnect protection resets are allowed three times in a seven-day period of live game play. Before BetRebels Poker successfully processes player's reset request, we will check whether the player has used up his quota of resets. We will not reset the protection if player has used his quota. Each player is limited to the use of eight disconnect protections (three resets) within a seven-day period of live game play. A player may request for a disconnect protection by applying to Betrebels Poker's Support.

Sit and Go Multi-table tournament game disconnect protection

Disconnect protection is not available in any Sit & Go, Single-Table tournament, Multi-Table tournaments. Your hand will automatically be folded if you lose your connection.

Game cancellation policy

Real money games

Players will be refunded the exact amount of money they had at the time of cancellation.

Table games

Players will be refunded the exact amount of chips they had at the time of cancellation.

Sit and Go Single-Table Tournaments

If tournament is cancelled because of technical reasons, any players who were eliminated before cancellation will lose their buy-in and entry fee. Remaining players will have their buy-in and entry fee refunded. The buy-in chips from the players already eliminated will be evenly divided between the remaining players, regardless of the chip standing at the time of cancellation.

Sit and Go Multi-Table Multi-Table tournaments

If tournament is cancelled because of technical reasons, any players who were eliminated before cancellation will lose their buy-in and entry fee. Remaining players will be refunded:

  1. The prize amount that would be awarded to the next eliminated player from the tournament will be awarded to all remaining players at the time of cancellation.
  2. Of the prize pool left after distribution according to point 1, 50% will be distributed equally between all remaining players and 50% will be distributed on a percentage basis according to chip count at the time of cancellation.
  3. Also the player's entry fee.

Rake Structure

Rake is a fee collected from hands according to the rake chart.

What is considered as Rake hand?

A hand in which rake was taking out from the pot is considered as a rake hand. A player is considered to play a rake hand if a hand has generated at least 0.01 in rake for that player when cards were dealt.

When Rake is calculating?

If the pot size is more than or equal to preset one for such type of game and number of players.

Example. Several players made Blind. One made Raise. If remaining players fold the cards, the player who made bet gets the whole amount without deducting the rake, even the amount is more than or equal to the amount from which rake is taken.

Rank of Hands

In Seven-card Stud poker, players compare five card hands against each other to determine who wins. A player with a Royal Flush has a better hand than a player with a Full House, for example. Below is a list of standard combinations ranked from best to worst.

Royal Flush Five card sequence, from 10 to the Ace in the same suit. A royal flush is a combination of a flush and a straight ending in the Ace high card. So all the cards are of the same suit, consecutive and have the Ace high card.
Straight Flush Any five card sequence in the same suit. A straight flush is a combination of a flush and a straight. So all the cards are of the same suit, and all are consecutive. Ranking between straights is determined by the value of the high end of the straight. A royal flush is a straight flush that has a high card value of an Ace.
Four of a Kind All four cards of the same index. Four cards of the same value such as four jacks or four 7's represent the second strongest poker hand. This hand beats everything except a Straight Flush.
Full House Three of a kind combined with a pair. A full house is a combination of three of a kind and a pair. Meaning all five of your cards are a part of a set of either two or three of the same card value (eg. three 7's and two Kings). Ties on a full house are broken by the three of a kind, as you cannot have two equal sets of three of a kind in any single deck.
Flush Any five cards of the same suit, but not in sequence. A flush is a hand where all of the cards are the same suit, if each card you have is all one suit, such as 3 of Clubs, 5 of Clubs, 6 of Clubs, 8 of Clubs and King of Clubs, then you have a Flush. Don't be tricked into thinking that all five cards are the same color. The high card determines the winner if two people have a flush.
Straight Five cards in sequence, but not in the same suit. A straight is a hand where all of the cards are consecutive. There is no continuative quality to this poker hand a straight cannot wrap around meaning it is not a straight if you have a Queen, King, Ace, Two or Three. Standard poker rules state that in the case of more than one straight, the higher straight wins, In case of straights that tie, the pot is split.
Three of a Kind Three cards of the same value. Any three cards with the same value (eg. a 6 of Clubs, a 6 of Spades or a 6 of Diamonds) is considered to be three of a kind. The highest set of three cards wins.
Two-pair Two separate pairs.Two sets of two cards of equal value constitute a hand that has two pairs. As usual the pair with the higher value is used to determine the winner of a tie.
Pair One pair of two equal value cards constitutes a pair.
High-card When the hand you are left with has no pairs, is not a straight or a flush then it's relative value is determined by the highest value card. When two players have no pairs, straight, or flush the winner of the tie is determined by the highest value card in the hand. If the highest cards are a tie then the tie is broken by the second highest card. Suits are not used to break ties.

Rank of Low Hands

The fact that in low hand all cards are of the same suit or in sequence does not affect its value. Ace is considered as low card.

The following list is from best to worst low hand, so any hand on the list beats any hand below it and loses to any hand above it.

Five High Five, four, three, two and Ace
Six High Any five card sequence in the same suit. A straight flush is a combination of a flush and a straight. So all the cards are of the same suit, and all are consecutive. Ranking between straights is determined by the value of the high end of the straight. A royal flush is a straight flush that has a high card value of an Ace.
Seven High Any five odd cards topped with seven. In case of coincidence of high cards, two next high cards should be compared, and etc.
Eight High Any five odd cards topped with eight. In case of coincidence of high cards, two next high cards should be compared, and etc.
